Nick Van Owen is a video documentarian and member of Malcolm's expedition to Isla Sorna. He is an experienced field photographer who has covered wildlife and combat situations, and began volunteering with Greenpeace to meet women. His experience with Greenpeace later spurs him to act in defense of the dinosaurs. He is the only member of his team to be warned by Hammond about InGen's expedition, and sneaks into their camp to release captured animals and disrupt their harvesting operation. Rex from Roland Tembo, leading to a confrontation with its parents which strands both teams on the island.
As the teams merge and form an escape plan, Nick easily gains the tacit respect of the rugged InGen men, as in one scene he is shown to effortlessly motivate the men while Peter Ludlow fails. His activist nature conflicts with the hunter style of Roland, and he covertly switches the latter's ammunition to ensure the T. When the group reaches the island's InGen compound, Nick uses the radio to call for rescue.
He leaves on the first evacuation helicopter departing Isla Sorna. Wu has a greatly reduced role in the first film, merely answering questions in the park's laboratory. He leaves the island on the last boat to the mainland before the tropical storm and the power failure.
Wong auditioned for the role with scenes that were taken from the novel, but he was surprised to find out how small his part would be in the film adaptation. He believed that his diminished role was the result of "racial exclusion in Hollywood", suggesting that the filmmakers at that time did not want to "waste screen time on an Asian-American character". He said he felt "left out" of the film adaptation and that "there was no real interest in that particular character as there was in the book".
However, he did praise Spielberg for "making me feel important and introducing me to the crew in a way that made me feel like I was a real contributor to the movie, even though my part was tiny". I'm going to go out on a limb here and say something that might irritate the Crichton fans out there—this movie succeeds where the Lost World novel failed utterly. It's strange to realize that the book is actually more Hollywood than the film in this case, particularly in the manner with which it tries to reproduce its past success. The children in The Lost World novel are literally the movie versions of Lex and Tim flipped; this time the boy is a computer whiz and the girl, Kelly Curtis, loves dinosaurs.
Instead, the film gives Kelly a real relationship to Malcolm , making her choice to stow away much easier to buy. Peter Ludlow is the anti-villainous main antagonist of the second film, John Hammond's nephew, and the newly elected CEO of InGen. He attained this position after convincing InGen's board of directors to oust Hammond following an accident on Isla Sorna, in which a group of Compsognathus attacked a girl who was visiting the island with her family. His character is ruthless, selfish, greedy and condescending toward those who work for him or those he dislikes. As a result, he is not very well respected by the members of his team who instead choose to follow Roland Tembo or Nick Van Owen. In an attempt to revitalize Hammond's original Jurassic Park attraction in San Diego, Ludlow assembles an InGen team to recover Isla Sorna's dinosaurs and move them to the original park.
Rex and its infant, with disastrous results leading to his own demise, as the adult T. Donald Gennaro is the attorney sent on behalf of Jurassic Park's investors to investigate the safety of the park after several reports of missing or dead workers. In the novel he is described as a short muscular man and represents an "every-man" personality among the characters. Although he is initially worried only about disappointing his supervisors, he soon drops this concern when his life is threatened, focusing on survival instead. When problems begin to occur, he consistently handles them appropriately, accompanying Robert Muldoon on a mission to subdue the Tyrannosaurus and successfully restoring power, despite being ambushed by a Velociraptor.
Grant claims that his negative attitude comes from trying to avoid responsibility for his role in creating the park. Although he survives the events on the island, he dies of dysentery sometime after. Described in the novel as a burly man fifty years of age, with deep blue eyes and a steel gray mustache, he is a former professional hunter who worked with Hammond at one of his previous parks in Kenya. He has experience working with dangerous predators and his attitude toward the dinosaurs is realistic and unromantic. He believes that the Velociraptors should be destroyed, describing them as smart and potentially dangerous. He also recommended that the park be equipped with more military-grade weapons for use in emergencies, but was overruled.
He reminds Hammond of this when it dawns on them that they have no way of stopping the escaped T. Muldoon spends most of the novel riding around the park, drinking whiskey and attempting to restore order. He is later attacked by a pack of Velociraptors, but survives by wedging himself into a pipe. He manages to kill a few of them, and eventually escapes the island with the other survivors.
Jurassic Park is a 1990 science fiction novel by Michael Crichton, adapted into a feature film released in 1993. As the novel opens, eccentric and wealthy entrepreneur John Hammond founds a high-tech amusement park on the fictional Costa Rican island of Isla Nublar. It is filled with dinosaurs cloned with the help of DNA harvested from prehistoric insects found in amber.
In order to open the park, he must first get investors and obtain insurance by gaining the approval of several experts in different fields. Hammond invites palaeontologists Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler, mathematician Ian Malcolm, and his investors' attorney, Donald Gennaro, to tour the park. Upon arrival, the experts begin to discover errors in the system, such as dinosaurs in the wrong pens and evidence of dinosaurs breeding in the wild.
These errors occur even though Jurassic Park is being run by expert computer engineers and well-established technical systems. Soon after, because of a tropical storm and industrial sabotage by a disgruntled technician, the park undergoes several technical failures and the dinosaurs escape their enclosures. A Tyrannosaurus rex attacks the group, separating them. The staff then make a desperate attempt to regain control of the situation. As Ian Malcolm had predicted from the start, it becomes quite clear that they had never been in control. Tim Murphy is Lex Murphy's brother and John Hammond's grandson.
In the novel, he is described as a bespectacled boy of about eleven who has an interest in dinosaurs and computers. His quick thinking and encyclopedic knowledge of dinosaurs aid the group several times, and he is instrumental in discovering that dinosaurs have escaped the island, as well as regaining the means to warn the mainland. Later, Tim's ingenuity and technical knowledge allow him to navigate the park's computer systems and to reactivate the physical security systems before the Velociraptors gain access to the visitor's lodge. His expertise regarding dinosaurs rivals Grant's, and is superior to that of Dr. Wu, the scientist who created the dinosaurs. Already familiar with his work before they meet, Tim almost immediately strikes up a friendship with Grant, who notes "it's hard not to like someone so interested in dinosaurs". Tim's father does not share his interest in paleontology, so the dinosaur-loving Grant forms an instant bond with Tim during their time in the park.
In The Lost World, Tim is only mentioned by Ed James as starting college. The tyrannosaurs tracked her across the island by the scent of the juvenile on her jacket, which she was too exhausted to realize was a danger. This led to an attack on the final night of the incident in which Harding was cornered in a small cave by the mother, and she was unable to save the life of Dr. Burke as he was killed. She was also threatened during their effort to reach the evacuation point by a pride of Velociraptors which inhabited the abandoned Workers' Village.
Most of these raptors were in the surrounding fields fighting the InGen hunters, but three remained behind and pursued her through the village. One of the male raptors was wounded by Kelly, and as the other male and the female pursued Harding she was able to get them to fight with each other. She and Van Owen brought the infant to the Gatherers' camp, where they turned the mobile laboratory into a makeshift veterinary clinic.
Malcolm was horrified, and Kelly noted that other animals would hear the infant's distress calls. She and her father left the RV, taking shelter in an observation lift that Carr was installing in the trees some distance away. Harding had previously gone over plans for this lift, called the High Hide, ensuring that its appearance and smell were disguised using native ferns. Van Owen and Harding inspected the dinosaur after securing its jaws with a belt. She x-rayed the broken leg, finding the fracture in the right fibula above the epiphysis. She calmed the tyrannosaur using morphine, but not knowing its metabolism, she was concerned about an overdose and so did not administer any more.
The phone in the trailer rang during the operation, but as she needed Van Owen to apply pressure while she tended to the fibula fracture, neither of them could answer it. She had Van Owen prepare a syringe of amoxicillin to prevent the wound from becoming infected. A rich family, accustomed to getting their way, set up an afternoon picnic on Isla Sorna, an island off the coast of Costa Rica.
Isla Nublar was set up to house the theme park Jurassic Park. Isla Sorna is the island where the actual research and rearing of the animals took place. Once the dinosaurs reached maturity, they were transfered to the theme park. The failure of Jurassic Park has led to a shut down of the facilities.
The dinosaurs were allowed to roam free without any human interference. When a young girl is horribly attacked by a pack of Compys, the secret of the island is out of the bag. The combined group gets chased by both Tyrannosaurus rex and Velociraptors, eventually leaving only the important characters alive. They escape the island, only to learn that a Tyrannosaurus rex was captured and brought back to the mainland.
The ship on which it was transported crashes into the dock, and the dinosaur escapes. It turns out that InGen captured its infant, and it wants its baby back. Ian and Sarah rescue the baby and use it to lure the Tyrannosaurus rex onto a ship. The dinosaurs are sent back to Site B, and the island is declared a nature reserve.
I think one the most incredible things about Eddie Carrs death is just how practical the scene is. Both Tyrannosaur animatronics are right there knocking the car to pieces with the actor inside. When Eddie is lifted out the car the actor is lifted as well and we see this.
The film then switches to a CGI shot of the Rexes ripping Eddie in two. Number 3 of my Top 5 film moment's is probably one of the most visually thrilling sequence in The Lost World. After the camp discussion after the Tyrannosaur attack on the trailers that Velociraptors would be a problem earlier on in the film. The hunters and gatherers run straight into the long grass after being chased by the female Tyrannosaur. I think the most striking scene in this film is that of the Velociraptors moving towards the hunters from both sides.
We see how tactical and intelligent the raptors are which was already established in the first film, working as a team together. This scene is also the first we get a look at the tiger striped pattern of the raptors which we only see briefly . I really love the tiger striped raptor design and even till this day it remains my favourite raptor designs behind the Jurassic Park 3 and Jurassic World raptors. Once daylight comes, Sarah attempts to get the car back. After hiding from a group of dinosaurs, she encounters Dodgson, who is searching for his car. Sarah pushes Dodgson out from under the vehicle, as revenge for his earlier attempt to murder her.
He is then taken by one of Tyrannosaurs to their nesting site, where his leg is broken and he is left for the babies to eat. After making a quick getaway from a group of Velociraptors, the survivors are able to reach an abandoned boat and escape the island. While on the boat, Malcolm and Harding tell Levine that some of the carnivores are infected with a virus, and any animal bitten by them will be infected also.
This means that all the dinosaurs on the island are fated to die due to spread of the virus. With that said, Thorne finally declares that is time for all of them to go home. Coming across the injured baby Tyrannosaur, Eddie brings it back to the base camp, where Malcolm and Sarah fix its broken leg. Its parents, who track their offspring note the absence of the infant and follow its scent to the trailers. The T-Rex then pushes one of the trailers off the cliff with Malcolm and Sarah inside.
They are rescued, but Malcolm's leg is injured, and he ends up spending most of the remainder of the story immobile . Meanwhile Eddie is attacked and killed by Velociraptors and Arby is kidnapped. Thorne and Levine rescue Arby, and the survivors take shelter in an abandoned gas station set up by InGen for the island's workers when the island was still in use. At the same time, Lewis Dodgson, geneticist at Biosyn heads to Isla Sorna, hoping to steal dinosaur eggs for his company. Sarah Harding, a wildlife observer and Malcolm's ex-girlfriend, accompanies Dodgson to the island.
Dodgson throws Sarah overboard from their ship, thinking she will drown, and continues with his plan. Dodgson locates a nest of T-rex's, walks up to the eggs, carrying a box that emits painful ultrasonic frequencies that fend off the grown Tyrannosaurs. Dodgson tells his employees to grab the eggs while he holds the adult dinosaurs at bay with the box, but his employees are too frightened of the adult dinosaurs. While walking towards the eggs, he steps on a hatchling Tyrannosaur, breaking its leg.
The power cord for the box is pulled out of its battery pack, leaving the men defenseless. It takes the adults a while to notice that the noise had stopped, but they soon attack. Dodgson makes a run for the car, but one Tyrannosaur pushes it off the hill before he can drive away.
Eli Mills is Benjamin Lockwood's ambitious aide, a businessman in charge of Lockwood's estate, and the main antagonist of the film. Mills has operated Lockwood's foundation since graduating from college, and is aware that Maisie Lockwood is a clone. He met Claire seven or eight years before the events of the film. Mills had Lockwood Estate's laboratory facilities reactivated and updated, and hired skilled geneticists from around the world to conduct genetic research. Mills goes against Lockwood's plan to transport the Isla Nublar dinosaurs to a new island sanctuary so that he can instead auction them at Lockwood Estate, and use the money to fund further genetic research. When Lockwood discovers his plan, Mills smothers Lockwood to death.
He becomes Maisie's guardian and tells Maisie, Owen, and Claire that she is actually a clone of Lockwood's dead daughter. After the auction is disrupted and the dinosaurs are released, Mills attempts to flee with a bone sample of the Indominus rex only to be killed by the Tyrannosaurus which then crushes the bone sample. Later, Owen, Claire, Zach, and Gray arrive at the laboratory and discover that InGen had cleared it, taking dinosaur embryos with them.
